كانت هناك مخطوطة، وكانت المخطوطة تتحدث عن لشبونة الإسلامية، وعن حصار البرتغاليين لها. كان الأذان يُرفع في "لشبونة" وكانت القوات البرتغالية تستعد لطرد المسلمين منها. البطل هو مصحح كتب يُدعي "رايموندو سيلبا"، بطولته تكمن في أنه لا يحب التاريخ بصورته الحالية، ولهذا يقرر أن يضيف تعديلًا طفيفًا لهذه المخطوطة: سيغيّر كلمة واحدة في المخطوطة وهي كلمة "نعم" ويضيف بدلًا عنها "لا". كيف يكون التاريخ بعد هذا التعديل الطفيف ؟ هل يتغيّر كثيرًا ؟
