عبيدالله بن قيس بن شريح بن مالك، من بني عامر بن لؤي. شاعر قريش في العصر الأموي. كان مقيماً في المدينة، وقد ينزل الرقة. وخرج مع مصعب بن الزبير على عبد الملك بن مروان. ثم انصرف إلى الكوفة بعد مقتل ابني الزبير (مصعب وعبد الله) فأقام سنة. وقصد الشام فلجأ إلى عبد الله بن جعفر بن أبي طالب، فسأل عبد الملك في أمره، فأمنه، فأقام إلى أن توفي. أكثر شعره الغزل والنسيب، وله مدح وفخر. ولقب بابن قيس الرقيات لأنه كان يتغزل بثلاث نسوة، اسم كل واحدة منهن رقية. وأخباره كثيرة معجبة. وقيل: اسمه عبد الله. والصواب التصغير.
