يعد "ديوان أوس بن حجر" من أبرز المراجع الشعرية في التراث العربي، حيث ظل متداولاً بين العلماء حتى القرن الثالث عشر. وقد تناول شرح ابن السكيت لهذا الديوان عبر عدة مراجع هامة، مثل "شواهد المغني" للسيوطي و"كشف الظنون" لحاجي خليفة. تم إعادة طباعته في فيينا عام 1892 بواسطة المستشرق رودلف جابر، رغم النقد الذي وجهه له المستشرقان بارت وفشر. وقد أضاف المؤلف إلى هذه الطبعة العديد من الزيادات المستمدة من مصادر ومخطوطات أخرى، مما أضاف قيمة علمية للديوان.
